Project Description
The new concept for Bukhara International Airport aims to reflect the city’s religious, cultural, and historical identity through contemporary architectural language. The design draws inspiration from the national flag of Uzbekistan — featuring the crescent moon and twelve stars — as well as from Bukhara’s historical title “Qubbatu-l-Islam,” meaning “Dome of Islam.”
The building’s façade reimagines the silhouette of the ancient Ark Fortress in a modern context, highlighting regional identity. The airport terminal is clearly zoned by function, with each floor carefully planned to manage passenger flows efficiently.
Design Approach and Concept
This project is not only a modern airport but also a cultural landmark that symbolizes Bukhara’s spiritual importance. The concept merges aspiration, dignity, national pride, and Islamic values within a modern design framework.
